There were only 5 brave souls who challenged the weather and rode to Killeen from Cedar Park. The Carrs, the Winfields and Tom Sprague met at HEB in Cedar Park and rode to Killeen by way of the scenic route. It was a georgeous ride. We met up
with Jack, Bob and Tim when we got there. Mark and Lynn showed up also, but were there as District participants. We represented Chapter O with 8 members. Although it poured down rain while we were at the rally, it let up to a slow rain on the way home. It was a soggy ride home, but it still didn't dampen our spirits.

Only 18 people attended the Koyote Campout this year. But we all had a great time. On Friday a group went to Bandera for Breakfast, and on Saturday another group went and then went for a ride in the hill country on A beautiful Saturday. Some of the group went to Luckenbach for a antique bike rally. Most of the people left for home on Sunday but a couple stayed for one additional night. The hill country is great for riding.

In the Hearne group was the Fazzino's, Bower's, Tidwell's and Linkenholker's. At the last minute Tom Sprague decided to accompany Richard from Dripping Springs.
The Winfield's set up our Halloween Mystery Ride. We ended up in Victoria TX at the new Marble Slab Creamery (Ice Cream Anyone?). Of course with a ride that long we also had lunch. There was also an impromptu Bike and Trailer show with folks from Chapter V-2 Chapter X. There were other locals showing there Harley's, Beemer's, and sport bikes. Everyone had a great ride. It was a little cool in the morning but it warmed up and we had to take some layers off. There were 6 bikes to take the trip, Amber Sprague on her 650, Tom and Randy and Jim on their 1500's Kathy on her Valkyrie, and the Winfield's on their 1800.

Homemade Clam Chowder, Salad, Cornbread, lots of desserts and friendly conversation, What more could you ask for? On Sunday evening about 29 Chapter O members gathered at Gail & Jerry Carr's for a fantastic meal and to socialize. Gail made her fabulous New England clam chowder and cornbread. I don't think anyone left hungry, if they did, it was their own fault. Everyone seemed to have a great time eating and catching up on what has been going on. Jerry gave tours through the "Man Cave". If you wern't there you really missed out on a great time and an even greater meal.

On Friday at 10AM a group headed to South Padre Island. It was a cold start to the day but we did not have any rain. It stayed cool until we stopped for lunch at Joe Cotten's BBQ. From there on it was clear and started to warm up a little. Everyone arrived at S Padre just at sundown. The next day everyone headed out for a ride lead by Chapter V (in the valley). Stopped at the only hand drawn ferry across the Rio Grand. Some ventured across the ferry. After the crossing we stopped at Enrique's cousins for lunch (catered Tacos). From Lunch some headed back to S Padre and some across into Progreso Mexico. Sunday some went for a ride (Again with Chapter V) and some stayed at the hotel to enjoy the beach. On Monday we all headed back on the only other cool day we experienced.

The Sweetheart Ride started off Not so sweet. We began the day with what the weatherman called Ice Fog. We decided it would be too dangerous to ride so we caged it. Everyone else apparently slept in. We departed HEB at 8:40 a.m. and headed for Cracker Barrel in Harker Heights. After eating breakfast, we went to Kay's Motorcycle Mania and did some shopping and socializing. We left Kay's and headed down the road to Killeen Power Sports where we did a little more shopping and socializing. Then the real fun began. We went to the Shilo Inn and made reservations for an upcoming event. We then decided to check out some of the Army (Military) Surplus stores in the area. We went to about eight different surplus stores. Several of them offered the chapter 15% discounts after they found out what we were doing. We also checked out all three Dairy Queens in the area for future reference. We realized it was already 5:00 p.m. so we headed home.

On Saturday AM a group of Chapter O folks met at the Austin Salvation Army HQ on East 8th St. Over the past year our members collected personal care products from the hotels we stay in. We collect this and donate them to a worthy cause, like the Salvation Army. At this time of the year the Salvation Army opens it doors for less fortunate people to escape the cold Texas weather. When these folks end up at the shelters they can clean up with the items we have donated. Great for the community and it sure makes you feel good inside to help out the little you can.

Wednesday 1-26 five mature, experienced, wordly ... heck were are just "OLD" ... guys rode to San Antonio to pick up the silent auction goodies that the dealer donated for the Bluebonnet Rally. There was Richard Seay (leader), John Conniff, Billy Laue, John Osborn and Tom Sprague. We were KSU @ 9:00am, stopped for breakfast at the Blanco Bowling Alley Cafe and were riding more backroads to S.A. by 10:30am. We went through Kendalia, Bergheim and Fair Oaks and came into S.A on IH-10 from the West. The Parts and Accessories Mgr. Tom Podlawsky met us and loaded us up with goodies (see photos). We got two riding jackets (man & woman), 6 bottles of bike wash, a soft-sided cooler, 2 Adventure Motorcycle Maps, 2 face shield bags and a model GL1800. We felt like bandits! On the way home we rode Bulverde Rd. to Smithson Valley Rd, then around Canyon Lake and of course had lunch in Wimberely and attempted to solve the world problems over coffee and sandwiches. We were back to Richard's house by 3:30pm where we unladed the bounty to take photos. Another successful haul!!!

Mid-Winter Roundup brought us below freezing temperatures, lots of information for the coming year, new CD's, new Couples of the Year, and a few suprises. Look at the picture gallery to find out what went on at the Killeen Civic Center on January 9th, 2010. We all had fun and according to several attendees--we learned things we did not previously know.

From San Antonio Ch U there were 15 and from Victoria (V2) there were 14. We also had people come from Killeen, Corpus Christi, Garland, Wichita Falls and San Antonio (Ch H). Texas Region was represented by Ken & Barbie. The Region H COY also attended (Fred & Mandy Mew). Thanks to the rain a few weeks ago, we actually had a few bluebonnets. The camp out was great fun and the weather could not have been better for the rally. What a gorgeous day to have a rally.

Chapter O has a tradition of going on a ride January 1 every year. We call it the Polar Bear Ride because some years you have to be a real polar bear to be able to tolerate the weather. We started out at the 290 Cafe this year and the temp was in the mid 30's. We rode over to pick up the rest of the group at 973 and 71 at the Exxon. Charlie & Julie Diggs had battery problems and decided not to take a chance, so they headed back to town. Tom & Dawn were in a cage also because of battery problems. Robby & Tricia had Fuel Injection problems and had to do the four wheel thing too. We rode back roads for about an hour with approximately 30 bikes and close to 60 people by the time we arrived for lunch in Winchester. Thanks to Ray & Debbie Hyatt for the suggestion. The food was great and the service was pretty good for a steak house out in the boonies! A large group of bikes left the steak house and went through the state parks before heading home.

Gail and Jerry Carr planned and led the ride from HEB out to Jonestown then down Nameless road to Liberty Hill and through the back roads to the park in Georgetown. Everyone packed their own lunch and we sat around and enjoyed each others company while eating. Jenifer fed the wildlife at the park and made a new friend. We rode to Dairy Queen afterwards and had ice cream paid for by the Chapter. Thanks Gail! This was a great idea. Sorry, pics had been misplaced--just found them!

Doc Farley (Sept 24, 1933 to Nov 30, 2009) was an avid motorcycle rider and great friend. Doc was born in Amarillo TX and practiced dentistry for over 44 years. His first bike was a 1939 Salisbury that he used to deliver newspapers. His first wife (Sharilyn) died Dec 2000. In 2002 he purchased his yellow goldwing and joined GWRRA. Doc owned a trike conversion company for a while and it was always interesting to see what kind bike he would turn up with. Doc met Joanie in 2003 on a bike ride. Doc's and his great sense of humor will be missed.

Eight hearty individuals showed up in Manor to help Randy make the pre ride for the polar bear route. It was about 40 degrees upon departure and it got up to a high of 47 degrees on this overcast day. Everyone was bundled up for the ride and stayed warm. The Restaurant in Winchester was unbelievable. Winchester is no more than a cross road but the road was packed on both sides with trucks stopped to eat. The food was really great. After Lunch we took a ride through Buecher and Bastrop state parks and split up in Bastrop. People either head north or to the south depending on where they lived.

The Chapter "O" Christmas Party was held December 5th at El Jacalito on east Oltorf. There were almost 50 people. We ate a meal of fajitas, rice and beans and deserts furnished by some of the chapter members. Randy and Kathy recognized a few people for their hard work and devotion to the chapter. We had a Christmas hat contest and a gift exchange or white elephant. Every one seemed to enjoy the meal and I know we all had fun with the gift exchange. If you were not there, you have a lot to catch up on so we will expect to see you at the January meeting to catch up on all the changes in the Chapter staff.

On Thursday Randy sent out a note indicating a new Firestone store would be opening on Friday in Pflugerville with Mario Andretti there to sign autographs. Richard recognized the opportunity to get his model race cars signed. So Richard and Tom took of to Pflugerville on Friday AM to meet Randy and to be part of the ceremonies. Richard got his cars signed and Tom got his jacket signed. Mario is recognized as one of the most successful race car drivers in the history of racing. Take a look on Wikipedia or his website (www.marioandretti.com) at his successes. It is almost unbelievable.

Richard Seay advertised an impromptu ride Friday and Saturday morning Billy Laue and , Harold & Molly Mullen met Richard in Dripping Springs for the trip. Jimmy & Johnnie Faye Tidwell rode all the way from Hearne and met the group at the car show in downtown Marble Falls. On the way over, Richard, Harold and Molly could not resist stopping at the Real New Orleans Style Cafe in Round Mountain for breakfast. Richard and Billy got something called the "Garbage Platter". We really enjoyed the 150 or so cars at the car show. Most of the group left and headed for lunch in Llano at the Acme Cafe on the court house square. The Tidwells headed for home after lunch because they had a 3+ hour ride. Richard, Harold and his daughter Molly rode by Enchanted Rock outside Fredericksburg, rode Lower Crabapple Road, went through Willow City and ended up on Jung Road headed for Hiway 290 and home. Richard rode straight to his grandson's football game in Austin and barely made it (only missed the 1st two plays).
It was a great day, wonderful weather (started off foggy), good food, good cars and wonderful company.

A ride to just eat lunch with some friends.. This is what biking is all about. For the people living in North Austin and Georgetown it was only 120 Mile ride. For those in South Austin / Dripping Springs it was a 180 to 200 mile ride. Just to eat lunch in ZAbCIKVILLE TX at Greens Sausage House.. A group of 5 bikes/trike departed Georgetown Honda at 11 AM on Saturday. We survived a short stretch of dirt road, rain and sunny sky. After lunch we turned around and came back. I call this my 5 hour 200 mile lunch. Everyone had a great time and some good eats. Please remember this weekend is all about the soldiers that pay the price for our freedom to live in this great country.

Chapter O was awarded 2nd place in the Banner competition and 2nd place in the Mascot competition. Plus, the Chapter O web site was awarded an honorable mention. Most found time to see Palo Duro Canyon, Cadillac Ranch and Big Tex Steakhouse. For other great stuff that happened at the rally, check out our June newsletter.

24 Chapter O members and family showed up to support the Chapter O2 Rally in Brownwood. There were 12 two wheelers, 3 three wheelers (2 trikes and a stallion) and 3 four wheelers making the trip. Mark Heene led the ride up to Brownwood while Lynn Heene took drag. The four wheelers followed. Israel, Bob and Jack went ahead to find some grub. The Fishers came a little later making our final numbers good enough for the award for most members from a visiting chapter. We all had a great time playing games and watching the duck race. Ask Nancy about singing Karaoke with Jeff Mew!!

On Saturday at 10:00 a group of 7 trikes and bikes headed from the Oak Hill Y to Kerrville to view some Texas art at the Museum of Western Art. Now they say art is in the eyes of the beholder. You can be the judge of the art by taking a look. Anyway, we were able to avoid the pending rain and had a great lunch in Fredericksburg. After viewing the art we headed back to Austin via one of our favorite stopping points.
