MLK Day Ride (18 Jan 2010)

We met at the Home Depot in Dripping Springs and it was foggy & wet. Richard kept telling everyone it was not raining … we were just in the clouds. Some folks were saying it was too cold and too wet and they were going home. Richard convinced those folks that it would clear, skies would turn blue and it would warm. By the time we reached Johnson City Richard’s prediction came true. While crossing the only low-water crossing on the ride, several people and bikes were baptized but we all safely made it through the 2” of flowing water. We stopped at the eagles’ nest on highway 29 and watched two adults and at least one baby bird. JC & Jimmy Tidwell from Hearne joined us here. From there we went to Cooper’s BBQ in Llano and we all ate too much. After lunch we rode sleeply with full bellies to the community of Tow. Tow is at the north-west corner of Lake Buchanan and is at the end of the road. It looked like the end of the earth was just past Tow. We headed back south around the west shoreline and intersected highway 29. A few folks headed home on 29 and the rest rode Park Road 4 and all its twisties. In Marble Falls four more bikes peeled off and we continued to split off as we headed south for home. All should have been home by 4:30pm except the hard-riding Hearne duo. On the ride: Richard Seay, Randy & Kathy Reese, Tom & Pha Andrews, Robert (Tom’s son-in-law), Gilbert (Robert’s friend), Steven Thomas, Jim Dumas, Jim Mc Cullick & Dianna (Jim’s friends), Tom Sprague, Dexter & Linda Poullard, JC Fazzino, Jimmy Tidwell, John & Wanda Osborn, Dave Getz, Gene Thomas, John Conniff, Barry Uptain and Mark Heene.
